Assorted UI from Hand of Fate 2

I was the sole UI artist working on Hand of Fate 1 and 2. The Hand of Fate games make use extensively of both 3D UI space as well as 2D. All original card illustration art was made by Jesse Gillespie.

I worked closely with programmers to create the layouts in game and functional according to our needs. The challenges we faced using 3D cards functioning in a hybrid diegetic UI space were numerous but it was interesting to find ways to make things work. Lighting cards was also a challenge to both look natural and also not interfere with anything else in the 3D space. 2D elements and icons were also a part of the interface requirements I oversaw.

Other types of UI elements I created include the card marks for each of the Companions. These marks were sculpted in Zbrush and baked onto a quad which was positioned over the top corner of the cards in an effort to give a 3D badge-like illusion. I also made the tokens and shards, their models, textures and icons.

A few of the token examples from the game that I made. The Shard was designed to interlock with 4 additional shards to create a singular large token unlock which was fun to make.
